Matildas vs. Sweden: Time, TV channel, live stream, squads, lineups and team news as Australia chase consecutive wins

The Matildas will continue their preparations for Women’s World Cup 2023 with a friendly against Sweden at AAMI Park on Saturday, November 12.

Tony Gustavsson’s side will be shooting for their third win in a row after securing victories against South Africa and Denmark in their last two outings.

Sweden – ranked second in the world – promise to be a true test for Australia, having belted France 3-0 in the last match and drew with Spain 1-1 prior to that.

In contrast, the Matildas suffered a 7-0 loss to Spain in June.

The two teams met twice at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 with Sweden winning both occasions 4-2 and 1-0.

Matildas confirmed lineup & team news

This Matildas’ 24-player squad features predominantly players plying their careers abroad, with only three A-League Women’s players – Larissa Crummer, Cortnee Vine and Jada Whyman.

As predicted, Gustavsson has picked a strong line-up to battle against the second-strongest national team in the world.

However, some notable players – including Luik, Van Egmond and Fowler – have been benched.

Chidiac has also been ruled out due to injury, whilst Kennedy is unavailable as she returns from injury.

Confirmed Australia line-up (4-4-2): Micah – Catley, Grant, Polkinghorne, Nevin – Foord, Gorry, Raso, Vine – Cooney-Cross, Kerr.

Matildas vs. Sweden preview and prediction

It’s going to be a tough match for the Matildas against world no.2 Sweden, who are only ranked behind the USA.

But Australia needs to test themselves in these kind of matches in hope of elevating the team ahead of the World Cup.

In their two recent clashes at the Olympics, Australia managed to do well in general play against the Swedes but struggled to create as many chances and then take them as their opposition did.

It’s important for the green and gold to not get beaten heavily like they did against Spain, but compete strongly against the world’s best.

Getting a positive result is going to be a tall order, however.

Forecast: Sweden to win 3-1
