We are used to seeing the best Portuguese teams in international competitions. In recent years, two Portuguese structures have been running European Ralis, ARC Sport with Bruno Magalhães, and more recently The Racing Factory has also been launched, all in the recent past.
A few years earlier, in 2011, BS Motorsport competed in the World Rally Championship with a totally Portuguese team and fought for the WRC2 title, beating the inaugural race in Jordan.
Now it is at a higher level, not WRC and logo with a foreign driver, and with a project designed for the whole year and novelty. For this reason, it is still more of a great pride.
A Sports & You supports Eric Camilli’s project in WRC 2, as he started to take place in the Monte Carlo Rally, curiously as a driver who won this same rally last year. For the first time, a Portuguese structure will manage not to land the participation of a named foreign driver, who is in the 1st division of two R5s at the world level, or WRC 2. A great honor for the team, which becomes the first, Portuguese , to have a ‘worldwide’ project with a foreign driver, as chosen by the Portuguese structure to be directly created by Citroën Racing. José Pedro Fontes explains the process: “Basically it is a sequence of what we have seen as a non-European project that we made that was supported by Citroën Racing as Efren Llarena. Now with greater responsibility, we are in the first league of R5, WRC 2 as the driver who won Monte Carlo last year, and the realization of a dream for the entire Sports & You fazer structure or Monte Carlo Rally in this context and Now we are going to try not to disappoint the confidence that they deposited in us. It was Citroën Racing who chose Sports & You to make this non-WRC 2 project. At this time it is scheduled to participate in three rallies of WRC 2, Monte Carlo, Portugal and Catalonia, we will see if we do more tests. For us it is a reason of great pride, we trust Citroën Racing to manage this project of Eric Camilli who is a world driver. We are very satisfied that Citroën has given us this vote of confidence”, says José Pedro Fontes, whose structure currently leads projects in Portugal, Spain, Indonesia and other circuit programs.
At the same time, André Villas-Boas, trainer of Olympique de Marseille, will make a partnership as the winner of the 2020 WRC2 Monte-Carlo and member of the #C3Rally2Family Eric Camilli, for the 2021 edition of the Rally Monte-Carlo with the aim of raising awareness among favor of humanitarian causes.
